Outsourcing Sustainability Policy

Scope

The scope of the policy is ultimately global, initially covering operation in the UK and the EU. Communisis recognises the need to balance the achievement of economic growth whilst protecting the environment. We recognise that this is a factor in our long term success and we are committed to improving our performance. In order to do this we have set out below the principles we will apply in our general business practice in the areas of production, procurement and travel whilst encouraging staff to contribute to and share our vision.

Principles

Communisis will adopt the following principles in our approach to sustainability Reduce, Re-use and Recycle. Typical examples of where these principals have already been applied are detailed below.

• Reduce waste by streamlining the production process
• Re-use pallets and cores
• Recycle wherever possible

Aims and objectives

Additionally Communisis is committed to the development, implementation and maintenance of an action plan to target improvements and monitor progress over time.

• Communisis will monitor compliance of its supply chain in accordance with FSC and PEFC requirements
• Review its contractual obligations with clients to ensure its policies are relevant and comply with appropriate legislation
• Develop its IQ pricing system so that as well as selecting the most appropriate sized vehicle for the transportation of goods it also measures the carbon footprint of any delivery
• Continue to further investigate the use of energy efficient production methods in order to reduce its environmental impact
• Improve the performance of its suppliers by measuring their compliance with  environmental standards and encouraging them to improve their processes
• Interaction with suppliers will include the evaluation of tenders and developing appropriate supplier sustainability performance criteria in to our procurement and evaluation procedures
• We will adopt a pragmatic approach to influencing our suppliers to improve their sustainability policy
• We will establish performance targets with our key strategic suppliers and monitor their progress using our CIPS accredited supply chain management methodology
• We will develop transparent and practical tools for assessing and providing feedback to our strategic suppliers about their environmental performance

Accountability

All Communisis businesses have shared responsibility for integrating the provisions of this policy in to their business planning model.

Communisis will review our performance every year and review our strategy. We will report annually on its progress in the report and accounts.

Communisis’ intention is to become best in class and be innovative in our approach to the issue of sustainability.
